Description

The KH 870 Dual 10″ Active Studio Subwoofer from Neumann is a professional-grade subwoofer, ideal for tracking, mixing, and mastering applications in music, broadcast, and post production facilities. The sub has a 7.1 HD Bass Manager that is compatible with all standard consumer formats from mono all the way up to more recent 7.1 high-def systems. The subwoofer supports 8 channels of analog audio via XLR connectors for wide compatibility and flexibility in modern studios. You can also add an optional 24-bit/192kHz digital input card to add support for 8 digital channels.

The sub has a sturdy cabinet with a pair of 10″ front-firing woofers. Front-panel bass ports extend low frequency response while reducing compression and turbulence. Because the ports are on the front, you can also position the sub next to a wall or flush mounted into a wall without reducing performance. The sub can be used on its own, daisy-chained with other subwoofers to make a larger system, or used with Neumann full-range monitors for a full multichannel system.

The subwoofer has an integrated 8-channel system volume control and has an RS-232 port for use with an optional remote control. The electronics can be remotely turned on with 2 modes of operation. Using a remote allows centralized system control regardless of the source, and the electronics can be remotely located to reduce cabling. Other features include a bypassable 4th order 80Hz active crossover and 4-mode LFE processing, as well as an electronic limiter to protect the sub’s amplifiers and drivers.

Features

Dual 10″ Driver

The dual 10″ front-firing drivers deliver bass frequencies as low as 18Hz, with up to 6dB more output than the single-driver KH 810. This allows your main loudspeakers to play at higher volumes with lower distortion. The drivers are also magnetically shielded for safe use near video monitors and other electronics

Bass-Reflex Cabinet

The rigid wooden cabinet matches other speakers in the family. It has a tough painted finish and high-density rubber isolation feet, plus excellent self-damping properties that minimize cabinet resonance. The large bass ports on the front extend low frequency response while reducing compression and turbulence. They also allow you to position the sub near a wall or flush mounted in a wall without a loss in performance quality. The final result is tight, articulate, and distortion-free low frequency reproduction, even at high volume levels

7.1 Channel HD Bass Management

The integrated electronics provide bass management that’s compatible with all audio formats ranging from mono to 7.1 surround sound. There is independent control of front and back channels for additional flexibility

4th Order Crossover

The bypassable 4th order 80Hz active crossover provides maximum compatibility with consumer formats and delivers seamless system integration

System Volume Control and Remote Capability

The sub has an 8-channel system volume control and an RS-232 remote port. This lets you use an optional hardware remote for centralized system control, convenient installation, and less cabling. The sub’s electronics can be remotely powered on with 2 modes of operation; either 0V or 12V triggers

LFE Gain and Processing

The KH 870 has 0 and +10dB LFE gain, as well as 4-mode LFE processing that includes LFE to sub and left/right, LFE to sub up to 80Hz, LFE to sub up to 120Hz, and LFE to sub with no filtering for daisy-chaining subwoofers and external signal processors. This guarantees compatibility across all formats and industry standards

8 Analog Channels and Digital Option

The sub supports 8 channels of analog audio via XLR connectors for wide compatibility and flexibility with a variety of systems. You can also add an optional 24-bit/192kHz digital input card to add support for 8 digital channels

Sum Output and Daisy-Chaining

The subwoofer’s sum output allows you to create larger systems and Plane Wave Bass Arrays to improve lateral consistency in a listening area

Acoustic Controls

Various acoustic controls include output level, low cut, parametric EQ, and 45° step phase control with a built-in test signal to match the sub to your work environment and other system components

Mounting

A main loudspeaker can be mounted on top of the sub to make a large 4-way column system

Low Heat Amplifiers

The internal amplifiers provide a peak output of 400W and have very low heat dissipation

Electronic Limiter

An integrated electronic limiter protects the amplifiers and the drivers for long-term reliability

Accessories Available

A variety of remote controls, remote cables, remote electronics kits, and driver cables are available so you can get the most out of the subwoofer. There is also an available flight case for travel
