The headset is based on the closed over-ear K271 MKII Studio headphones with a flexible gooseneck condenser microphone. A mute switch is built directly into the arm of the gooseneck to silence the microphone when the arm is raised up. The headset also includes a mute switch built into the headband to turn the headset off when you remove it from your head. The microphone can be mounted on either the left or the right side and the headset connects through a six-pin XLR connector. The cable is sold separately and comes in a variety of options.

The HSC 171 headset features a switch in the headband that mutes the audio just as soon as the headphones are taken off. The professional 6-pin mini XLR connector allows quick replacement of the cable. If a cable should become defective under the enormous stress of day-to-day broadcast work, it can be replaced quickly and without any tools.
